Top 10 Dental Care Tips – Richmond BC Dentist

Dental treatment is nothing to be afraid of. Visits to the dentist don’t have to be feared or painful. People want whiter teeth, but anything beyond a quick brush a couple times a day is considered involved or tedious. Avoiding emergency dentist care through prevention is easy and in just a few short minutes a day you can get whiter and healthier teeth and gums. Even just basic dental treatment can make a huge difference and save pain, suffering and thousands of dollars. To maximize time and effort, here is a list of the top ten most important things to include as part of your regular dental care regimen.

Blundell Dental Clinic is a well known dental services Richmond BC. Meet our friendly Richmond BC dentist to have teeth whitening Richmond BC or any painless dental treatment nearby Vancouver, Steveston, Ladner and Tsawassen, British Columbia.

  1. Take brushing seriously. Brush at least twice a day using a fluoride toothpaste and rinse thoroughly.
  2. Use the right equipment. Pick the right bristle for your teeth and gums and keep brushes rinsed and air dried between uses. Electronic or battery powered brushes can help provide the right motion for children or people with arthritis or injuries.
  3. Flossing between each tooth once a day to help stop cavities, gum disease and greatly increase general dental hygiene by reaching places a brush cannot.
  4. See the dentist. Dental treatment wouldn’t be half as painful as people believe it to be if dentist care were included as part of a regular yearly regimen.
  5. Get cleanings in between appointments. Professional cleanings with a hygienist several times a year can help eliminate many small problems that arise between regular dentist care appointments.
  6. Rinsing with an antibacterial liquid between brushes and after meals. Rinsing can keep food and stains from adhering to the tooth surface and being lodged in gums.
  7. Watch what you eat and drink. Dark drinks can stain teeth, but too much sugar and chewy, gummy foods can cause damage as well. Either avoid these foods or have a brush or rinse ready to use as soon as you are done.
  8. Whiten at home. Even regular dental treatment or cleaning can’t keep up with a daily coffee or wine habit. A weekly or biweekly whitening treatment at home can keep discoloration at bay.
  9. Avoid tobacco. Smoking, chewing and dipping tobacco products not only increases the rate of tooth decay, tooth loss and contribute to gum disease, but also cause mouth and throat cancers.
  10. Act quickly. Seeking dentist care at certain signs can help minimize future issues. Sore or bleeding gums, overly sensitive teeth, slight tooth loosening, persistent bad breath or changes in tooth alignment are just some small symptoms of what could be bigger problems.

  2. These are great suggestions, thank you for sharing! I'm interested by point #5, about getting regular cleanings between appointments. I always maintain regular appointments with my dentist in Victoria, BC, but it hadn't occurred to me that it would be important to see a hygienist between those visits. I may have to keep that in mind.
